Young designers get opportunity to exhibit their work

In a new initiative, Bangor University has offered local Schools the opportunity to showcase work by their best designers in a dedicated design and technology exhibition.

Nine schools across north Wales have taken up the opportunity to showcase  examples of work from among young designers studying Key Stage 3, GCSE, AS and A level design and technology at a two day exhibition at Bangor University’s prestigious Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre.

Peredur Williams, Design Technology lecturer at the School of Education, explains how the event came about:

“The Exhibition arose from our regular meetings with Design & Technology teachers in the area. They were keen to showcase some of the excellent design and technology work produced by their pupils, and we realised that we could stage an exhibition immediately after exhibiting the work or our own graduating and second and first year students.”

Participating in the Show was Carys Matthews, 17 of Ysgol y Creuddyn. A level student Carys is off to study graphics Cardiff later this year and said:

“It’s great to see my work as part of a Show, it changes the way you see your work when it’s displayed in a space like this.”

The Exhibition was at Pontio’s White Box between 2.30-7.00 today, Friday 16 June.
