6th Form Broadening Horizons programme

Following their AS Exams, Year 12 students have had the opportunity to engage with a wide range of guest speakers as part of the 6th Form Broadening Horizons Programme.

This initiative is aimed at providing students with opportunities to gain contact with representatives from a wide range of vocational and subject backgrounds, so that they can make more informed decisions about their own future pathways.

The school is able to draw on a wide range of expertise through our alumni network, links with local employers and the broader school community.

So far speakers have included:

Eirias alumni and Geography graduate, Beverley Budgon who has since become and Estate Management Surveyor working with the National Trust, whilst also running a toy distribution service in her spare time.

Dr Tom Wilkinson, lecturer in Biology and Environmental Science at University College Dublin, with a doctorate in Biology from Oxford.  As well as talking to the students, Dr Wilkinson also kindly provided our Environmental Science students with a mock first year lecture, to give them a taste of the University experience.

Rhys and Chris Styles from Pinacl Solutions (Computer Technology solutions), St Aspah.  Chris is a Solution Architect whilst Rhys is a recent graduate of a project manager apprenticeship programme.  Together they were able to provide an interesting insight into a rapidly expanding and changing sector.
