IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR YEAR 11 - SKILLS CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE

The Individual Project (IP) is a key part of the Skills Challenge Certificate, in normal times this accounts for 50% of the final grade and covers all the skills of the qualification.

To help you achieve your full potential in this important piece of work there will be a joint focus on the Individual Project across all English and Skills lessons next week (1st March-5th March).

What does this mean?

During all English and Skills lessons for the week beginning 1st March, you will be working on your Individual Project. Your English teacher will give you personalised feedback and targets to support you in achieving your full potential. If you have not yet handed in your Individual Project you must do so ASAP so that your teacher can mark it and give you feedback to help you make improvements next week.

How will this help English?

The Individual Project has many of the skills that are vital to English embedded in it. Completing your IP allows you the opportunity to develop these skills, using a theme of your choice. Extended writing is an important English skill. This opportunity to transfer skills between English and Skills is setting you up for lifelong learning and giving you the tools for success.

What do I need to do?

Your English teacher will give you personalised feedback having read your IP, They will tell you exactly what you need to focus on - if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask them. The key thing next week is to be ready to work on the IP for all each English and Skill lessons.

What will happen after the 5th?

Once you submit your work on the 5th March, the English team will remark the sections you have added to and give you a mark. If this mark is in line with or above your TG then you will use your Skills lessons moving forward to focus on other work. This will be supported by a member of staff, for example there will be maths focus sessions that you might be part of or if you need help with coursework for another subject you will be able to do that. If your IP has some elements where we can support you further, you will use your Skills lessons to focus on these.

If you have any further questions, remember your English and Skills teachers are there to help so please ask us!
