The Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, visited Colwyn Bay recently to open the new 4G all-weather pitch.
The full-sized pitch will be used for both football and rugby by local community clubs and schools, ensuring games can be played in all weather conditions.
Cllr Louise Emery, Conwy Council Cabinet Member said, “This superb new pitch complements and enhances the existing facilities in Parc Eirias - a high quality resource that will encourage, and enable, greater participation in physical activity.”
Environmental impact was of concern during the construction. Bat boxes and twenty four new tress were built and planted to replace those that were removed.
The Minister for Culture said that “The pitch is a very welcome addition to the wealth of top class indoor and outdoor sports and leisure facilities in North Wales and will no doubt contribute to the growth of sport in the region. Good quality, modern facilities play a huge part in encouraging more people to get active and it’s an honour to be here at beautiful Eirias.”
Our Yr 7&8 learners had the honour of christening the new 3G with their rugby and football skills. Diolch to our Yr13 PE students for taking the sessions. @eirias pic.twitter.com/bsdzQiM7h5
