European Day of Languages 2019 got off to a fantastic start here at Ysgol Eirias. In the lead up to the big day, lessons explored the significance of foreign language skills, staff were given the opportunity to win a hamper full of goodies from around the continent (whilst raising money for charity), form classes were treated to some taster lessons in different languages and students from the Sixth Form took part in a ‘Bake Off’ with an intercultural theme.
This year was made particularly exciting given that a group of our staff and students were making the trip over to France on the day itself, putting plurilingualism into practice in the real world. However, students on site were still given a taste (quite literally!) of a wide range of cultural experiences, kindly provided by our enthusiastic canteen team.
With exciting international menus for staff and students to try over break and lunchtimes throughout the week, it was an opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity and hopefully provided some ‘food for thought’!
A big merci, danke, gracias, diolch to Andrea and her fab team in the restaurant for pulling out the stops for European Day of Languages.
