Ysgol Eirias awarded The Rainbow Flag Award

The final section of the rainbow flag award has been passed and the school is now officially a rainbow flag award holding school. It has been an enormous undertaking by Mrs Zachara and has been hugely supported by many members of staff.

My vision for Ysgol Eirias is one of excellence, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. | am dedicated to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment whilst maintaining the high academic standards that our school is known for, ensuring that every child can thrive and be happy
Mrs Evans, Headteacher of Ysgol Eirias
The future plans in your evidence are truly exciting and I think show that Ysgol Eirias is going to continue to be in a strong position for inclusion. So my main recommendation is just to keep up the excitement and good work.
Rainbow Flag Award

As we continue to embed inclusivity into the foundation of our education practice, this award (that has been achieved through the tireless work of key staff) is a symbol of where we are heading.

The award is given to schools where the evidence and plan is clear and covers a range of areas from Pledges from Chair of Governors and the Headteacher, changes to the RSE Policy Document, as well as a comprehensive audit of many of the key documents and policies that underpin the day-to-day activities in the school. Evidence was also gathered from the key areas of School Discipline Policy Document, Performance Management Policy Document, Anti-Bullying Policy Document, Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy Document, School Uniform and Appearance Policy Document, Strategic Equality Plan Document, Training Day Presentation and Feedback Responses, and Staff Testimony.

The Rainbow Flag Award has been set up as a framework for schools.

The award focuses on positive inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community and it is a whole-school inclusive approach that also develops strategies to effectively challenge phobic bullying.

The six areas that we have to look at before achieving the Award are:

1- Skilled Teachers

2- Supportive Governors and Parents

3- Effective Policies

4- Pastoral Support

5- Inclusive curriculum

6- Student voice

We are very proud to be presented with this award as it shows the direction we are moving in when in comes to an inclusive education for all the young people in our community.
