The month of June sees Pride being celebrated across the world, and Ysgol Eirias is no different. With many learners and their families being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, it is important to raise awareness and understanding of different ways of life.
Learners and staff alike were invited to take part in a collective art project called Express Yourself with Pride. Everyone involved expressed themselves with pictures, words and patterns on coloured card and these were combined to create a large rainbow flag which has been displayed in the school’s restaurant. Some designs were simple, some showed the current online trends and others being very intricate drawings. The completed flag and all individual creations can be viewed on a specially published website https://sites.google.com/hwbcymru.net/eiriaspride2024/.
A competition was also run to design a new Eirias Pride flag. The winner, runner up and all other designs can also be seen on the website. The winning design has be printed and will be displayed from a flag pole in the school yard. Thank you to all those who took part and congratulations to the winner.
Clwb Enfys, Eirias’s LGBTQIA+ Alliance, runs every Thursday after school in S24 and new members are always welcome, whether you consider yourself part of the community or an ally. We are already starting to plan next year’s celebrations and look forward to including all of the Eirias community again.
