Our U18 football team have made it through to the national rounds in the Welsh Cup after another hard fought victory.
Playing into a very strong wind in the first half we were solid and counter-attacked well, keeping the score down to 0-1 thanks to a couple of excellent saves from Jack.
The second was a completely different story. With the wind at our backs we were dominant from the start and only some fantastic goalkeeping kept the score unchanged.
After 12 minutes the much deserved break-through came. A strong, driving run from captain Elliott took him to the by-line before squaring the ball for Ano to get the equaliser.
After this it was one-way traffic for almost 20 minutes, with many near-misses and some more excellent save from the Brynrefail goalkeeper.
With only 8 minutes remaining we were caught on the break by a rare attack and fine shot into the bottom corner put us 2-1 down and facing defeat.
However - this team is very resilient!, more pressure and close calls continued, with the second equaliser arriving two minutes from time after excellent work from Harrison on the left kept the ball in before he squared it to Harry to finish emphatically.
For the second game in a row penalties were needed to decide the outcome. With Brynrefail going first and scoring each of their first three penalties- Alfie, Teddy and Harry ensured we kept the pressure up with excellent penalties that left their goalkeeper no chance. After Jack made a fantastic save for their fourth penalty, Cian calmly scored his keep the outcome in our hands. Brynrefail scored their fifth, meaning if we scored our fifth we were through. It was fitting that MOM Ben Woody took this and put us through with another very cool penalty.
An excellent, resilient performance to deservedly send us through to the national rounds. Well done boys ⚽️💪🏻
