Our senior football team travelled to Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in the quarterfinal of the National Cup.
After a very poor start we found ourselves 3-0 down within 20 minutes before we settled into the game and reached halftime with the score line unchanged.
The second half started much brighter with Ano quickly getting a goal back and Bobby doubling our score minutes later. We were now pressing hard for the equaliser when we were caught on the break. 4-2 to Syr Hugh.
This set-back didn’t deter the boys who continued to apply pressure and Bobby soon got us back within a goal - but only for two minutes when we conceded from a corner. 5-3 to Syr Hugh.
The next ten minutes of the game saw us really take control and through some excellent passing and moving we quickly added three goals thanks to Ano, Finn and a 30 yard rocket from Cian to put us 6-5 in front.
With both teams showing exceptional resilience and attacking threat Syr Hugh brought it back to 6-6 with just over 10 minutes left. Only a couple of minutes later Cian scored another great goal from outside the box to put us 7-6 ahead.
Unfortunately Syr Hugh still looked very dangerous on the counter-attack and managed to level the score at 7-7.
In the last few minutes of the match one team scored and the other had a very good shot excellently saved - unfortunately for us we were the team who didn’t score.
With outstanding character shown by all involved in the match, Syr Hugh just edged it 8-7. Good luck in the semifinal.
Very proud of all of our players and good luck for the future to our year 13 boys who have played their last game for Eirias - Elliott, Ben, Dylan, Jack, Teddy and Ryan. @ysgoleirias
