“Eirias in the top ten per cent of schools for value added performance”
Alps is an independent organization that provides information on the ‘value added performance’ of schools in their A Level results. They work with over 95% of schools in Wales and thousands of schools across the UK.
They gather huge amount data from GCSE results to calculate the most likely grades that students are likely to attain at A Level, based on their GCSE results. They can then rate the performance of the students, different subjects and the whole school cohort based on what they are most likely to achieve and how much ‘value’ is added to each student.
E.g. if a student was expected to achieve a C grade and actually achieved a B grade, then ‘value’ has been added.
Based on this data, Ysgol Eirias recently received its annual report from Alps for the 2018 A level results. The overall ‘T Score’ for the school which is based on performance of the whole cohort places us in the top ten per cent of schools nationally.
Our average performance over the last 3 years is also rated in the top 10 per cent nationally. Our A Level Quality Indicator score also placed us within the top 10 percent of schools nationally.
No fewer than 17 subjects across faculty areas were graded as 3 or above (adding significant value to student performance), including Art, Biology, English Literature, German, History and Maths. Economics and Welsh achieved the highest possible value added score of 1. Importantly, the report suggests that value is being added to students across the full range of ability levels at A Level.
