We understand that this year has been particularly difficult for you. At the current time you would normally be starting your GCSE exams. As a result of the current lockdown, there will be no exams this year, and there will be no study leave. You will remain full time students of the school. We do not know when pupils will be returning to school.
Sixth form students have frequently said they wish they had been better prepared for the difference in the way they work in the Sixth form. Sixth form teachers are, as you would expect, extremely supportive, but you will need to be able to work independently, organise your time effectively, and show a high degree of commitment to your subjects.
Given that you have been out of school (and out of practice for even longer than usual), it is important that we help you bridge the gap from Year 11 into Year 12 and transition into the Sixth Form or future study elsewhere.
To achieve this, each subject has organised a series of transition tasks to give you a flavour of the type of work you will be covering in the Sixth Form. These will help prepare you for the rigour of A-level study, as well as advance your knowledge and awareness of some of the content of these new courses.
ALL pupils will be expected to complete this work. There are suitable activities for all students, even if you intend to go to college, into work or start an apprenticeship.
You will find the transition activities below, listed alphabetically by subject.
You should download and complete the transition tasks for the subjects you are planning to study in Yr 12.
If you are not returning to school there is an employability task HEREfor you to complete (for a word version please see the download option below).
Everyone is expected to submit the work on or before 24th June. You will see details of who to send the work to alongside the task.
These tasks are important. Your performance in the transition tasks will enable your teachers to gain a greater understanding of your suitability and demonstrate that you will cope with the level of work expected for the courses you have chosen. Consequently, it is very important that you complete the work to as high a standard as possible.
