Glan Llyn residential visit
Ymweliad preswyl Glan Llyn

By Catrin Wilkinson

Ar Dachwedd y nawfed, teithion ni i Lan-llyn, i baratoi am y diwrnodau nesaf. Am tua haner awr wedi deuddeg, cyrhaeddon ni, ac yna aethon ni i ein ystafelloedd. Genethod mewn un ystafell, a’r bechgyn i mewn ystafell arall. Yna, roedd hi’n amser cinio. Cerddon ni i lawr i’r ffreutur i fwyta, a roedden ni i gyd yn llwglyd iawn ar ôl y daith i lawr.

On November the ninth, we travelled to Glan Llyn, preparing for the days ahead. We arrived at half past twelve, and then went straight to our allotted rooms, girls in one and boys in another. Then, it was lunchtime and we walked down to the canteen to eat, and we were all hungry after the journey down.

Ar ôl i bawb orffen, roedd blwyddyn deuddeg, yn cynnwys fi, yn gwneud cwrs rhaffau. Roedd hyn yn llawer o hwyl ac yn siawns i bobl sy ddim yn gallu gwneud pethau fel hyn fel arfer, neu sydd heb wedi eu gwneud o’r blaen gael hwyl. Pan roedden ni’n gwneud y cwrs rhaffau, roedd blwyddyn tair a ddeg yn cael sgwrs hefo Hannah Wright am sut oedd hi wedi dysgu’r iaith Gymraeg, achos roedd hi, fel ni, yn ddisgybl ail iaith. Pan roedden ni wedi gorffen, roedden ni wedi cyfnewid ac roedd blwyddyn tair a ddeg yn gwneud y cwrs rhaffau a blwyddyn deuddeg yn siarad hefo Hannah. Roedd y sgwrs hefo hi yn help mawr i lawer o pobl achos roedd hi’n siarad Cymraeg/Saesneg’ yr holl amser. Ar ôl i bawb orffen, roedd pawb yn mynd i’r ddarlithfa i ddysgu am yr iaith Gymraeg efo Mr Andrew Shurey.

After everyone had finished, year twelve, including me, was doing a ropes course. It was a lot of fun and a good chance for everyone to meet and for people who do not usually, or have never had, a chance to get to do things like this. When we were doing the ropes course, year thirteen were having a chat with Hannah Wright about how she learnt the Welsh language, because she was second language. When we had finished, we swapped over and so year thirteen were doing the ropes course and year twelve were having a chat with Hannah. The chat with Hannah was a big help for most people because she spoke ‘Wenglish’ the entire time. After everyone had finished, we all went into the lecture hall to learn about the Welsh language with Andrew Shurey.

Y noson gyntaf, roedd gig GWILYM yn Ysgol y Berwyn ym Mala a teithiodd pawb i lawr i wylio nhw. Cyn iddyn nhw ddod ymlaen, roedd dau fand lleol yn chwarae, ac roedden nhw’n dda iawn. Ond, doedden nhw ddim mor dda a GWILYM, achos roedden nhw’n arbennig o dda ac roedd pawb yn dawnsio ac yn mwynhau bod yna.

The first night, GWILYM were having a gig in the school in Bala, and everyone travelled there to go and see them. Before they came on, there were two local bands that played, and they were quite good. However, they were nowhere near as good as GWIYLM, because they were amazing, and everyone was dancing and having a great time.

I ddechrau’r ail ddiwrnod, roedd yna ddwy darlith i flwyddyn deuddeg a tair ar ddeg cyn cinio. Roedd y darlithoedd yn help i ddeall mwy o beth fyddan ni’n gwneud yn y dosbarth. Yna, roedd y ddau blwyddyn yn canŵio, sôn am hwyl! Yna, teithion ni i gyd i lawr at Gapel Celyn i glywed caneuon am hanes Cymru gan Gwilym Bowen Rhys, ac roedd pawb yn cytuno, roedd o’n arbennig o dda. Aethon ni yn ôl i Lan-llyn i gael un darlith arall cyn te. Ar ôl te, roedd llawer o ddewis o beth i wneud cyn gwely, ond roedd pawb yn Eirias wedi dewis saethyddiaeth. Roedd o’n llawer o hwyl yn cael cystadlu yn erbyn ein gilydd ac yr athrawon. Yn anffodus, doedd yr athrawon ddim mor dda a’r disgyblion!!

To start the next day, there were two lectures for both years before lunch. The lectures were a great help to understand more about what we had been doing in lessons. Then, after lunch, the two years canoed separately, before the next lecture. Then, we all travelled down to Capel Celyn to hear songs about the history of Wales from Gwilym Bowen Rhys, and everyone was in agreement that they were amazing. We went back to Glan Llyn to have one last lecture before tea. After tea, there was a lot of choice of what we wanted to do before we went to bed, but everyone in Eirias chose to do archery. It was so much fun having competitions against the teachers. Unfortunately, the teachers were not as good as the students.

Dechreuodd dydd Gwener fel dydd Iau, mewn darlith, ond dim ond un y bore yna, yn lle dwy. Syth ar ôl i’r ddarlith orffen, teithiodd pawb i’r Bala i gael hanner awr i ein hunain cyn mynd yn ôl i Eirias, ac yna adref. Roedd o’n drist pan roedd y tri diwrnod wedi ei dod i ben, achos roedd pawb wedi cael amser anhygoel. Ar y bws adref, roedd pawb yn edrych ymlaen i ddod yn ôl blwyddyn nesaf, ac roedd hi’n drist i feddwl doedd disgyblion blwyddyn tair a ddeg ddim am fod yno.

Friday started the same as Thursday, in a lecture hall, only one in the morning instead of two. Straight after the lectures finished, everyone travelled to Bala to have an hour to themselves before we were to head back to Eirias, and then home. It was sad when the three days had come to an end, because everyone had such a good time. On the bus going home, I was looking forward to coming again next year, but was sad at the thought that the year thirteens would not also be returning.
