Over October half term, Year 8 pupil Mimi Holland-Roberts took part in an exciting competition at Venue Cymru for Young Storytellers.
The annual event is aimed at young people who love listening to and writing stories. Mimi wrote a gothic piece of writing after being inspired by her year 8 English lessons this term. This is what Mimi had to say about it:
At first, I didn’t have a story to tell but then inspiration struck! As I sat in the ‘Make your own story’ workshop, a certain memory returned to me. I had been learning about ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allan Poe in English. It is a fantastic piece of writing and I thought that I should create something inspired by this. I wrote by own version replacing the one and only raven with a goose.
The writing went well and I ended up with a short poem. I am grateful for the understanding that I gained in my lessons which helped my own writing. I was thrilled to win the competition and the prizes included £10 and a mentoring course.
The festival takes place once a year https://www.venuecymru.co.uk/y...
