After a busy week in school some 93 pupils and 10 staff met very early (10am) on a Saturday morning outside the Zoovenier Shop at the Welsh Mountain Zoo. After the opportunity for a group photo we all headed off for a good walk to see all the attractions of the zoo.

We visited the reptile house, the tiger enclosure and a few of us saw the big bear after some gentle coaxing out of his shelter! Lunch was spent seeing the penguins walk for their lunch together with the sea lion show. We all gathered at 1 o’clock to see a presentation on how the Welsh Mountain Zoo is working with other zoo’s to provide a breeding programme for Chimpanzees. This proved to be both educational an entertaining when the chimpanzees were ‘fighting’ for the treats on offer! Pupils finished off the day in the zoo park having much fun on the zip wires and the slides!

  • Ysgol Eirias teamed up with Outlook Expeditions for an adventure of a lifetime to Malawi.

Over a year ago Outlook Expeditions came into Ysgol Eirias and worked with the pupils in creating their perfect adventure. Over the following months the pupils worked as a team fundraising for this expedition in a variety of ways in the local community.

On 22nd July nineteen students travelled to Malawi to carry out project work in some of the most deprived areas of the country. After the project phase both groups took part in a trek and then some sightseeing of the country.

Sian Parry, now in Year 12, said, "This trip was the best experience of my life and I know that it is an experience that I will never forget. My favourite part was the community project as we got to take part in activities with the children such as football and netball and we got to talk to them and donate gifts. It was amazing to see how different life is in other parts of the world and how welcoming the people were; inviting us into their life. It was great to meet lots of new people and it was so nice to have such a warm welcome where ever we went.
