Nursing masterclasses

Year 12 students interested in Nursing and health care courses have been able to attend a series of masterclasses this week as they begin their preparations for university applications.

Dr Liz Mason from Bangor University School of Healthcare Sciences visited on Monday to provide a talk followed by a question and answer session on careers in nursing and midwifery which should prove invaluable to the students.

Dr Mason has very kindly offered to provide a follow up session in the Autumn term focusing on personal statements and interview skills. Dr Mason's session was followed by a talk from Eirias alumni student, Jemelia Bentouri, who has recently completed a nursing degree and was therefore able to share her very recent experience of an application and degree in nursing.

Finally, but by no means least, fellow alumni student, Rhian Smith (pictured) provided a talk about her experiences as an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, working on the neo-natal ward but also with the Air Ambulance.

Rhian has kindly organised a number of work experience opportunities for Eirias students at Glan Clayd over the last few years and we are very grateful for her help and support.

This has contributed to a very successful record of students applying to nursing courses. Indeed, thanks to all involved in the sessions this week and the Health and Social Care team for supporting the events.

We are sure they will be of tremendous benefit to our students.
